To a New World (新世界へ, Shinsekai e) is the eleventh episode of the Trigun Stampede anime.
Synopsis[]
Vash falls into a huge water tank, set up by Knives. In the tank, filled with a solution that accesses the plant, Knives is forced into Vash's memory world. Vash loved and protected the human race, even though he was hated by the people. What is the important memory that supported him? Meryl returns, and witnesses an unbelievable sight.
Summary[]
Meryl encounters leaving Wolfwood and asks him where is Vash, however Wolfwood doesn't know and guesses he may be mummified by Knives. Meryl then kicks him in the leg, stating she is disappointed and leaves him.
Knives connects to Vash
In the water tank, Knives jumps after Vash and sticks his blade tentacles into him, activating Vash's plant appearance and making him stop moving. William then states the first initial connection is complete. Meryl shows up and tells William to stop, however, William states that she won't shoot him, and the glass to Vash's tank is also bulletproof. Additionally forcefully severing the connection right now may be fatal. William explains that plants are just husks and their true being is located elsewhere, in an alternate dimension, a higher plane. That's also from where the energy they consume from plants originates. William speculated that the difference between the Independents and the other plants is a soul. And in order to give the plants souls, they must connect to the core. Meanwhile, Vash starts creating roots that reach other plants in the water tank. Meryl realizes that William is trying to make all the plants Independent.
Vash find himself in the place where he lost his arm. Knives explains its a memory and reminds him what he said and wanted Vash to join him. Vash then states that humans are only abusing the plants because they crashed on this planet, which is his and Knives fault. Knives then tells him he will be crucified on behalf of the Sinners and causes Vash to start falling.
Meryl states that if the plants become Independent, humanity won't survive, but William states that humanity is already in the process of a slow suicide and Plant Independence is the only way to stop that. Vash is special as he is the only one who is able to take from and send to the higher dimension. Meryl doesn't think that Vash will agree to that and William states that's the reason he will be remade. The computer then pings that the second connection is successful, making William comment that they can now interfere with every plant using Vash as a window. Knives states he is proceeding and soon Vash won't remember anything at all.
Vash finds himself in front of a destroyed town. He sees Tonis and then Rollo, who is then shot by Wolfwood. They blame Vash for his irresponsibility and that he can't protect them. Wolfwood turns into Knives, who tells Vash that he isn't a hero who will save everyone, but a coward who can't stand to watch anyone die. Vash realizes this isn't real, but a dream and tries to look for a way out. He finds a crashed ship and Knives asks him what will Meryl and Roberto think when they find out he caused the Big Fall? But then states he doesn't need to worry as they are creatures who have short lives. As the synchronization continues to raise, Vash starts to forget who Mery and Roberto were. His roots start to spread outside of the water tank, but Knives tells William to not worry.
Vash sees Rem in his memory
Knives tells Vash that he should use his power to remake the world. Vash then sees something in his hand and whispers to Knives. The scenery then changes to a green dome full of red flowers and a large tree under which Rem waits. Vash then runs to her and hugs her. The synchronization had reached 90%, but then it comes to a stall.
Vash and Knives learn about Tesla
Vash and Knives see a memory where Rem shows them a red flower, geranium, however Vash is disappointed its inedible. Rem reminds them that when the humans wake up, Knives shouldn't use his powers in front of them and they should eat and drink even if they don't feel hungry. She then explains that they are precious to her and loves them both. Vash guesses that this memory should mean something for Knives as well, but Knives isn't so sure about it. Vash then sees a memory where he and Knives wanted to see what Rem is hiding. They find files of them under Project Code "Type-T", being categorized as Independent and born on July 21, 2455. They see another girl like them, Tesla, who was born 50 years ago and is currently frozen. Knives activates something and chambers with Tesla's body parts appear. Seeing that, they start to scream and Rem comes and finds them. Vash knows that humans did terrible things to her and why Knives hates them, but Knives states that is just one grain of sand.
Knives shows another memory to Vash, where he states that humans keep repeating their mistakes and bring war everytime. Vash believes in Rem, who told him that she won't allow such tragedies to occur again. Knives tells Vash that without powers, he was too weak to live as a plant which is why he craved the love of humans. As he acted like their pet, he would have never found happiness. Knives had to protect him, which is why he caused the crash. Hearing it was done because of him, Vash mentally breaks up and the synchronization continues to go up. His roots had spread outside of the Central Tower and the humans in July had started attacking it.
A portal a higher planes opens behind Vash
Knives tells Vash that Rem was the cause of his confusion as he tried to believe she loved him. Vash holds Rem, not wanting her to leave him, however Knives cuts her head, stating he is saving Vash. The synchronization then reaches 100%, and the third connection is successful. A portal opens behind Vash, and flowers start to bloom from his roots as they continue to spread across July. Knives intends to enter the higher plane and directly touch the core. William tells him to be careful and caught blood, noting that as Knives will finally realize his dream, he would be able to die. Going through the portal, Knives sees the core and gets happy that the Independents will bring a new order to the world. Vash roots continue to grow, forming a standing Rem-like appearance over July.
