Vash the Stampede stands among the ruins of July, 11 hours after the incident.
July or the "Third City" was once one of the major settlements on the planet Gunsmoke/No Man's Land.
The entire city was reduced to ruins by Vash's Angel Arm on the 2nd hour of the 21st day of the 7th month of the year 0104 A.D. in what is known as the "July Incident". The city earned the nickname Lost July after the incident.
Manga History[]
Like the rest of the Seven Cities, July was likely established around the remains of a SEEDS ship following "The Big Fall." Not much else is known about the city except that it along with its inhabitants were destroyed on Star Date: 7/21/0104 in what is known as "The July Incident" by the unintentional firing of Vash the Stampede's Angel Arm. The incident would also be what lead to Vash's infamy as "The humanoid Typhoon" and the enormous bounty placed on him.
Anime History[]
In the anime (1998), though July is destroyed much in the same way as the manga, nobody is killed despite the immeasurable destruction. Unfortunately, the city's now homeless and destitute citizens would fall victim to starvation and infighting for whatever resources remained, ultimately resulting in widespread death not long afterwards. One of the city's few survivors, Elizabeth, was assisted by the then-amnesiac Vash after the death of her parents, but would dedicate her life to killing the man supposidely responsible for the event, unaware he was the one who had helped her survive.
