A bus drives into a town and from it exits Wolfwood as the bus is flooded with people trying to get on. Wolfwood enters the local saloon and has guns pointed at him by the patrons, once they realize he's not a bandit they put their weapons away. It's learned from the barkeep that bandits have taken over the town and that Vash the Stampede is their leader. Just then, Eriks and Lina arrive in the saloon and it's learned that Lina had an altercation with the bandit leader. Sequentially after this revelation, the bandit leader fires his cannon arm at the saloon and demands that Lina surrender herself. In response to this, Eriks tries to negotiate with the bandits. The bandits agree to leave the town, but only if Eriks strips down naked and acts like a dog, to this, Eriks agrees and does so. Although the bandit leader didn't want to uphold his part of the bargin, he does so after seeing Wolfwood glare at him. All seemingly ending well, the bandit leader orders one of his men to shoot Erik and it causes him to be hospitalized.

At the hospital, Lina and her grandmother visit Eriks and are soon joined by Wolfwood. The doctor and nurse inform Wolfwood of Erik's condition and Wolfwood then wakes him up with a single punch to the face. Awake, Eriks requests that Wolfwood and he, be left alone to talk and the doctor and nurse allow it. Once they're all out of the picture, Wolfwood says that it's been a long time calling him, "Vash the Stampede".

Vash and Wolfwood then talk about the event in Augusta that destroyed the city and put a hole in the 5th moon. When questioned about his motives for living in the town, Vash answers that he wanted to live quietly in town for once. Hearing this, Wolfwood confesses that he hopes to get Vash out of town and returns his gun to him. He mentions that a man named Frank Marlon fixed his gun for free after Wolfwood told him that the gun belonged to Vash. Meanwhile, Lina and her grandmother sort through Erik's clothing, and the two talk about Eriks. It's then, a series of flashbacks show Vash was found by Lina and stared his new life as Eriks. Back to the hospital, Wolfwood leaves allowing Vash to live his new life, but informs him of an incident in a town called Carcasses. Apparently the entire population of that town mysteriously disappeared with the only clue left behind was a name written in big red print, "KNIVES". Hearing this infuriates Vash as he curses Knives for not allowing him any tranquility whatsoever. After hearing Lina was captured by the bandits from Lina's grandmother, Vash chooses to wield his gun again and save Lina.

Eventually, Wolfwood and Vash confront the Bandits at their HQ and rescue Lina. Afterward, Vash at Lina's home, has his haircut to his former signature hairstyle. A flashback shows that despite Lina and her grandmother trying to dissuade Vash called Eriks to reconsider leaving them. However, his mind is made up. As Vash leaves with Wolfwood, he internally thanks Lina for everything and says goodbye... for now.
